Quinceanera

Listed below is information and requirements for the celebration of a Quinceañera.
If you would like more information on how to plan a Quinceañera celebration, please call our office: 773-286-7871– Ext. 102.

Our Catholic Church strives to celebrate our youth and thank God for the life that only comes from God. For this reason, Our Lady of the Rosary Parish acknowledges these young girls who come to the altar to worship God and honor the Virgin by whom we have received the author of life, Jesus Christ our Lord.

In order for the girl to celebrate her Quinceañera with a Mass in church, she must comply with the following requirements:

  1. The family of the Quinceañera must be a registered, contributing, and active parishioner, or have permission and a signed and sealed letter from the parish to which they belong, contribute and support.
  2. The Quinceañera must have already celebrated her Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation and practice reconciliation on a regular basis. No exceptions for lack of sacraments of initiation will be permitted.
  3. The Quinceañera must first reserve the date with the church  before reserving the hall for the party, at least six months in advance.
  4. The Quinceañera must attend three sessions before the celebration. With the Parents, Sponsors and the Chambelanes & Damas (if apply).
  5. The Quinceañera should sign the mass attendance sheet, that has her name and date of celebration, every Sunday, located In the church by Our Lady of Guadalupe Sanctuary, after Mass, Father or Director will review it. She should participate actively in the Parish Holy Mass.
  6. The Quinceañera must prepare the    liturgical celebration of the Mass; Select the First Reading, Second Reading, (assign the readers), the Gospel, and the Prayer of Consecration to the Blessed Virgin.
  7. The Quinceañera must also coordinate the rehearsal schedule with the Director; date and time, assign the role of all participants and sponsors so everyone knows the liturgy on the day of the celebration.
  8. If the family of the Quinceañera wishes to invite another pastor to celebrate the Mass, the family is responsible for his compensation.
  9. The church requests a donation of $500.00 for families that have been      registered parishioners for at least a year.  The donation is $700.00 for    non-parishioners and a letter of recommendation is requested.
  10. If you would like to arrange the church flower arrangements for the altar not big regular, flower arch in alleyway from the break of the church to the back only, balloons and flower petals are not permitted.

Why Do We Implement Rules?

The purpose of the rules for a quinceañera celebration is to simply have the young girl reflect and          appreciate God’s gifts and blessings she’s received throughout her life.

It is an act of gratitude to God for life itself, praise, blessings and reverence through prayer.  Otherwise, it would distort the true meaning of the celebration in the church and it turns into abuse that is not pleasing to God.

And although the quinceañera     celebration is not a sacrament of the church, the significance of the      special day she celebrates with her family and friends is a sign of thanksgiving to the Almighty Father for the life received from this God who is all love.

.“Thank you, Lord our Father, because you have allowed me to celebrate my fifteen years today and again I dedicate myself to you...thank you to my parents and all those who join me in this very special day in my life.”
(Dedication and consecration rite of the quinceañera —Father Patrick Brankin)

“The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord has consecrated me;  He has sent me to give good news to the poor... to give the afflicted of Zion a Crown instead of ash, joy instead of tears, songs of praise instead of despair."       (Is. 61: 1, 3)
